Description
As part of my senior project class in the Interactive Media Management program, I was tasked with creating a product from start to MVP. I decided to tackle a challenge I was facing since my move to Canada. An avid sports lover and washed-up cricket player, I wanted to find a team and play some pickup cricket games. However, I couldn't find a team near me. So, I decided to prototype an MVP for a social connection app - Huddle Up which would help sports enthusiasts in connect and find pickup games near them.
Problem Statement
How might we help sports enthusiasts find pickup games easily and connect with other sports enthusiasts quickly?
The Process
Empathize
The first step in the process was to conduct user interviews to understand user needs. I conducted in-person research and online surveys to determine features that users' would benefit from.
Ideate
Based on user interviews and competitive market research, I narrowed down 4 key features for the first iteration:
- Ability to find players
- Ability to find teams
- Ability to find sports arenas
- Ability to chat with others in the app
Before diving into the definition phase, I created a UX theme, moodboards and personas to help me throughout the design process.

Prototype
For this project, I designed the prototype on Figma. With key features defined, the first step in the process was a lo-fi paper prototype, followed by a lo-fi Figma prototype. Between these two iterations, I ran user tests with potential users and UX students and iterated the feedback into the prototype before moving on to high-fidelity iterations. The focus was on creating a working prototype with colour and placeholder text in 8 weeks. During the last week, I added microcontent by creating a content framework and guidelines that took inspiration from sports lingo and team camaraderie.

Conclusion
This was my first solo UX project. It was quite a journey from beginning to end. The most important lesson was learning and implementing an agile methodology and incorporating testing during the build stage. I learned how to strategies and create a product from scratch and in doing so I strengthen not just my UX skills but critical thinking skills as well.
